Who We Are
The Kim Rodrigues Foundation is named in memory of Kim and supports the initiatives which Kim was passionate about during her lifetime. The Foundation has four Core initiatives: Advancing Nursing, Healing Children, Rescuing Animals, and Supporting Soldiers, Veterans, First Responders and their families. Kim was born May 1, 1965 to John and Gail Messenger. Kim was the oldest of four children and was always the protective big sister to her younger siblings, David Messenger, Brian Messenger, and Kristin Cahill. She grew up in Newburgh, NY and attended schools there. After graduating from High School, Kim earned her associates degree at SUNY Orange. She went on to earn a B.A. in Sociology and later an MBA.
Kim was married to George “Rod” Rodrigues. Rod was her soul mate and a devoted and caring husband. Kim loved the ocean and Cape Cod, where she and Rod chose to live. She cherished the opportunity to share her beautiful home with family and friends, providing the perfect vacation haven. She enjoyed cooking and nurtured everyone who walked through the door. Kim’s enthusiasm for life, along with her infectious laugh could brighten the day. She was a natural athlete and excelled at every sport she tried, especially soft ball, ice skating, skiing, and golf. She watched football religiously and was an avid and loyal Buffalo Bills fan.
Kim was loved by everyone who knew her for her kind, selfless and generous spirit. She worked for the U. S. Army for 20 years, where she created and developed eLearning for Army civilians, supporting soldiers and their families around the world.
She loved animals and children very much. Kim rescued/adopted several animals in her lifetime and was a perennial donor to St Jude Children's Research Hospital. Upon retirement, Kim planned to volunteer in both these areas.
Tragically, Kim became ill in August of 2023 and passed away on New Year’s Day 2024. While in and out of hospitals Kim was awed and inspired by the care and kindness the nurses provided. In typical Kim style, she wanted to do something for nurses in the form of a scholarship fund to express her gratitude for the loving care she received in the last days of her short life.
